Insurance
Travel insurance is the purchase you hope never to use, which makes the cheapest policy tempting. The difference shows when you claim, so compare what each policy covers before comparing prices.
Check the medical cover, including emergency evacuation and repatriation, which are the costs that can be ruinous abroad; the cancellation cover and which reasons count; the excess you pay on each claim; and cover for baggage and delays. Declare any pre-existing medical conditions, because undeclared conditions are a common reason for refused claims. If you plan activities such as diving, skiing or trekking at altitude, make sure they are covered. Many policies also require you to live in the country where you buy, and some limit how long you can be away.
For long trips and people living abroad, SafetyWing's travel medical insurance for digital nomads is available whatever your home country, and Genki offers health insurance designed for nomads. World Nomads suits adventurous travellers, with cover for many activities, and Insure My Trip compares policies from several insurers at once.
If you are travelling in your own vehicle, Sterling Insurance is a UK broker for campervan, motorhome and van-life insurance, including motor cover for touring the UK and Europe. That insures the vehicle, so you still need travel insurance alongside it.
The Allianz Travel website sells only to US residents; its listing links to Allianz's travel insurance in Australia and Canada.
