Sterling Insurance

Sterling Insurance is a UK insurance broker, authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Most of its policies are motor insurance, and many are for people who travel by road: campervans and motorhomes, living in a van, touring the UK and Europe, and driving abroad. Its range does not include travel insurance for medical costs or cancelled trips, so you still need that separately.

For campervans and motorhomes, Sterling covers professionally converted and self-converted vans, classic Volkswagen campers and Mazda Bongos, and UK-registered vehicles can be covered for driving in Europe for a set period, depending on the policy. Van-life insurance is for people living in a campervan or motorhome full time without a regular home address, including personal possessions kept in the van. Self-drive hire insurance covers motorhomes and campervans that are hired out, and there is cover for trailer tents, teardrop trailers and luggage trailers.

For driving abroad, Sterling offers European and temporary European car insurance, Green Card insurance for countries such as Morocco, Turkey, Ukraine and the Balkans, expat car insurance with policies for France, Spain, Portugal and Switzerland, and European breakdown cover. Walkabout insurance is motor insurance for gap year travellers, backpackers and working holidaymakers touring the UK and Europe in a car, van or camper, with cover from a week up to a full year, for holders of UK, European and selected non-European driving licences. There is also car insurance for non-UK residents and for drivers with no fixed address.

It suits UK residents taking a campervan or motorhome on long trips, people living on the road, drivers taking a UK car abroad, and overseas visitors touring the UK and Europe by road. Quotes are available online and by phone, and the price depends on the vehicle, the drivers and how it will be used.
